The computer doesn't have a serial port and I needed one to run windbg to do kernel debugging on the windows virtual machine.I saw another review of this device that indicated it worked with Linux, so I decided to try it.I plugged it in and the device showed up without any configuration hassles. I work almost exclusively with Linux and suddenly needed to to some windows driver development. I run Linux on my development workstation and run windows under a virtual machine. I configured VMWare workstation to assign the serial port to the windows VM, booted the VM in debug mode and used my company laptop (running windows native) as the debugger machine with a null modem cable connecting the two. And everything worked the first time.
The advertised product worked as promoted, meet expectations to use legacy serial port devices with Vista PC interfaces. Vendor shipped product in less time than promised and item was well packed for shipping. Price was reasonable and quality above average.
I purchased the adapter to connect my older GPS receiver with my Linux desktop. When I connected the adapter to my desktop, Linux immediately recognized it and assigned it a serial port device number. It also works well in Vista after installing the included driver. No fuss, no trouble.
I tried to find something online but everything relevant is in Chinese. This product did not come with the device drivers to enable my Garmin to connect with a PC Vista computer. I am unsure whether this is due to the major scratches on the disc that came with it (I tried it on an XP computer as well) or what. A COMPLETE waste of money. Be careful.this company makes it sound like it will work with basically any device, but that was NOT my experience.
The CablesToGo USB to Serial adapter did not work for me. Sure it costs twice as much, but no excuses. Don't waste your time or money on this product.
I love their instructions - see if the adapter shows up as properly installed in the windows device manager (which it does). If you want a solution that works every time, purchase the Keyspan USA 19HS adapater. I tryed using it in an industrial setting to connect a Vista machine to RS Linx and other industrial software.
There is a reason there are 54 used ones for sale for a couple of bucks on Amazons site. If it doesn't work, the problem is with your software. Right.
It plain works. See my review on the Keyspan adapter for connectivity to RS Linx using a Vista or XP machine.
